Kirk Family Band: Music

The Earnest Soldier

(theJkirks)
Jackson and John Kirk
Our family wrote this song just before the Iraq war began. We chose to protest because we did not trust our country's leadership. We did not believe in the war. This song was our first attempt to honor the soldiers who die in our name by opposing the people who sent them to fight.
The Earnest Soldier

Moment’s slow. Years move so fast.
I got to run. I’ll miss my past.
Don’t wake me when it’ over.

Shortest story ever told.
Died so young. Born so old.
Don’t look it’s on my shoulder.

And I won’t be back again.
Not punished for my sins.
I face eternity with at I chose to be.

I’m declaring peace today.
Better get out of my way.
Go home now the fighting’s over.

Greatest story ever told.
A poor man’s peace beats rich man’s gold.
We’ll take it off his shoulders.

And I won’t be back again.
Not punished for our sins.
I face eternity with what we chose to be.

I want to take you with me.
I’m holding you round your knees.
But I know when I go, I go alone.

Heart beats slow. Blood flows so fast.
I could not run. I missed my past.
Woke up and now it’s over.

Earnest story never told.
I died so young for rich man’s gold.
Don’t look it’s on your shoulder.

And I won’t be back again.
Not punished for my sins.
I face eternity with at I chose and what you chose for me.

I want to take you with me.
I’m holding you round your knees.
And I know when I go. When I go.
I go alone. I go alone. I go alone.
